Golden Phoenix
The Golden Phoenix, sometimes referred to by its formal name, the OFA Player of the Year award is an association football award presented annually by the Osarian football's governing body, the OFA, since 2139. Coaches and captains of every OFA registered team in the country, as well as selected media representatives, vote on the Osarian league player they deem to have performed the best in the previous calendar year.
During the 2160s, Benedict di Corradi became the first player to win back to back awards. He would go on to set a record for most wins, after claiming four across a span of five years. These records would both be surpassed when Benni Watson claimed four titles back to back between 2179-2182, and five in total. Overall, Firewood City players have claimed twenty Golden Phoenix awards, more than any other team.
To date, only two female players – Serenity Lewis and Elaine Ashdown – have ever won the Golden Phoenix, though women frequently appear on the shortlist of nominees, and several have placed in the top three. In 2229, Elaine Ashdown also became the first overseas national to win the award.
Voting and selection process
The winners are chosen by the coaches and captains of each OFA registered team as well as by media representatives invited by the OFA. In a voting system based on positional voting, each voter is allotted three votes, worth five points, three points and one point, and the three finalists are ordered based on total number of points. Voters are restricted in their selection however, from a shortlist of nominees provided by the OFA. This list typically numbers between twenty and thirty players, though there is no formal rule dictating how many names are on it.
